Ryan, my home is cluttered. That’s why I’m moving! How can I clear the clutter quickly?

This is a great question.  You’re ready to move to a bigger home and whether you realize it or not, potential buyers are likely to search every inch of your home, including closet space, cabinet and storage sheds to determine if their own belongings will fit. Here are some ideas to minimize the clutter.

I was showing a home in Richardson, Texas today  in Richardson Heights where the home owner made good use of some of the items I’m going to mention below.   With a few smart moves, even with a little kiddo, you can have your house ready to greet guests very soon.

Storage Bench: Buy a storage bench or seat to store toys, pet items and garden tools in a great-looking container that adds a decorative element to the space. A toy box in kids’ bedrooms makes quick work of preparing rooms to be shown and is a great place to play hide and seek as well.

Overhead Storage Systems: Add inexpensive overhead storage systems to the garage or shed. Sturdy and easy-to- install ceiling mounted storage systems keep walkways free of debris.  Now if you could just figure out a good place for golf clubs, then you’d be on to something! Chances are your home could benefit from a few well-positioned racks. Consider bike racks, multimedia racks, coat and hat racks, laundry racks and, of course, spice racks.

Hanging Storage: If space is at an absolute premium like you see in older homes in some of the historic areas of Dallas or Richardson, then this kind of storage can be a great solution.  If you lack cabinet space in the bathroom, you can hang your toiletries and other small items on the back side of the door to a closet…out of view, no longer a problem.
